How Are Prayer Times Calculated?

Prayer times are determined by the position of the sun relative to your location. Each of the five daily prayers corresponds to a specific solar position: Fajr begins at dawn twilight, Dhuhr when the sun passes its highest point, Asr in the afternoon, Maghrib at sunset, and Isha after twilight disappears.

Our calculations use the Muslim World League method with precise astronomical formulas that account for your city's latitude, longitude, and altitude. For the best experience with Athan notifications and automatic location detection, download the Hilal app.
